The seminar covered facts and myths related to Epilepsy. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Dr. Suresh Gupta, Senior Neuro Physician. He said, “There are various myths about Epilepsy. But all of them are immoral. Epilepsy is caused due to neurological disorder. It is disorder of the brain and the Central Nervous system. There are various symptoms of this disease such as sudden loss of consciousness, hasty jerky movements and abnormal behavior which last for few minutes.” Further he said, “In children, this disease occurs due to the deficiency of oxygen at the time of delivery. It can be cured after proper modern medication for three years. 80% of the patients are cured after medication and else may need surgery. Epilepsy can be diagnosed by different tests such as EEG, CAT, PET, SPECT and MRI scans. “Talking about the types of Epilepsy he said. “There are two types of this disorder, one is partial and another generalized. In partial Epilepsy only one part of the brain is affected. Mostly, the people of India think that Epilepsy patients are mentally retarded but it is not true. It is a myth”
