SDMH OUTREACH SERVICES

Our Inspiration
It was one man’s vision, one man’s farsightedness that made a difference in the lives of so many. Our founder, Padmashri Khailshanker Durlabhji, founded SDMH with primary aim of providing quality health care for the poor and the needy. Such people in need are usually outside the ambit of quality medical care. To take Khailshankerji’s dreams to greater heights, we have launched the Outreach Programme. Though this, we hope to impact and improve the lives of people in need. This is our goal, this is our vision, this is our dream, and we shall strive our utmost to achieve this.

SANTOBA DURLABHJI TRUST : THE
OUTREACH INITIATIVE
Intoduction
Outreach Services by Santokba Durlabhji Trust began in 1980 when a clinic was set up in the kachhi basti of Jhalana Doongri in order to provide free OPD services to people in need. Over time, the scope of services has been further enhanced by association with organizations such as Disha, Umang, SOS Village, Faith, Kushtashram etc. Eventually, after much soul searching and intense discussion, Yogendra Durlabhji formally established the SDMH Outreach Programme on 3rd September, 2008, even as the Trust Completed 50 Years of service to humanity.

Philosophy
Padmashri Khailshanker Durlabhji was a true visionary. He saw paths where none existed; he sought solutions where others merely saw problems; he dreamt things that never were . To him, Life meant giving back-giving, back to society every which way ,helping people in distress, and providing succor and relief to people from deprived and rural areas. He felt that we could always make a difference if we really wanted to – whether it was by distributing blankets to people sleeping on pavements or by opening the first not-for-profit medical clinic in Rajasthan or by establishing the first state-of-the-art, not for profit,multi-speciality hospital in the entire state.

The Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital ( SDMH) was inaugurated in 1971 by the then Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi. Today , SDMH is a 400 bed hospital, fast moving towards 600. The hospice , Avedna Ashram provides free palliative care to its 100 inmates , certified terminally ill. Khelubhai sincerely believed that making a difference was far more important than making a buck. And SDMH has made a huge difference- not only to the city of Jaipur but also to the state of Rajasthan and to neighboring states. As an extension of these values ,principles and philosophy, the SDMH Outreach Initiative was conceived. Today, Outreach is a full-fledged department, with its own agenda, with an independent Director and with a schedule of activities prepared one year in advance .

Concept
The SDMH Outreach Programme is all about making a difference - specially to the life of the common man, the challenged child, the slum and pavement dweller and the villager. For such neglected sections of society, the programme seeks to provide round-the-clock, round-the-year medical services so that these peoples, who may be outside the ambit quality health care, do not remain outside the ambit of care, compassion and concern.
